The labor union organization UNITY was registered with the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic on December 31, 2019. On January 8, 2020, the employer Orange Business Services Slovakia s.r.o. became aware of its existence. From this moment, it acts as a representative of the employees of this company.
Who we are?
Why we were established?
It is the right of every employee to pursue their interests through representatives acting in the employer’s interest. We have chosen the form of a trade union organization because it has the strongest position among all representatives in our legislation.
Although unions may seem like a relic, the truth is that their popularity is growing at present. Trade union organizations operate in employers across the entire labor market, not only in western countries but also in Slovakia.
IT and telecom companies may be some of the last where trade union organizations like ours are emerging. This is mainly because working conditions are often disproportionately better here than, for example, in the manufacturing sector (automakers, steel mills, etc.). However, this does not mean that they do not have a justification in such companies.
Whether it is about improving the working environment, working conditions, benefits, or even overseeing compliance with safety and health at work, unions are a kind of unified voice on the employer’s premises during negotiations with company management.
